Supporting young talent
From the initial development of a game idea to building prototypes and writing the game instructions, there is a lot to consider when creating a new game. It's good to be able to rely on the decades of experience of beleduc and game designer Federica Monzio Compagnoni.
Together with the dedicated teachers at the Liceo Artistico Arcangeli art school in Bologna, the students immersed themselves in the world of game invention in a workshop. They developed game ideas and combined science and technology with creative design.
The workshop began in December 2024 and concluded with the presentation of the projects at the end of March 2025.
Game with added value
The aim of the workshop was to involve the 50 pupils in the game development process. In groups of two, they were asked to develop a game concept that was not only entertaining but also educational and presented scientific or technological topics. They were also asked to write instructions, design a logo and prepare wooden prototypes.
The students at the Bologna School of Art developed truly unique ideas. They managed to convey complex content in a playful way. They dealt with scientific phenomena and topics such as balance, elasticity, magnetism, rotation, shadow play, reflection, as well as sustainability and ecological effects. This resulted in both diverse and innovative ideas that are both fun and stimulate learning.
Ideas are being developed further
The pupils were able to get a lot of feedback on ideas for further development during the final presentation. With this feedback, they are now taking the final step of putting the game instructions on paper. After this in-depth exploration of the topic, perhaps one or two of them will decide to become game designers later on.
We would like to thank all participants and organisers for this fantastic workshop!
