What skills does Torreta help to develop?
As demonstrated in gameplay footage from the project run by the University of Siena in collaboration with beleduc educational toys, Torreta promotes the development of motor and cognitive skills, colour perception and hand-eye coordination. The easy-to-grip game pieces encourage children to play independently and develop strategies. The bright, high-contrast colours stimulate visual perception and help children to recognise and distinguish between colours.
Torreta promotes active learning and helps children develop cognitive and motor skills in an interactive and constructive way. The game can be used to teach mathematical concepts such as proportions, the relationship between size and quantity, balance and stability. The university also highlights that the wooden material is well-suited to the game’s concept and offers an additional tactile experience.
Torreta’s educational value lies in several complementary areas of learning.
- Art: This game helps children develop their perception of colour and their understanding of quantities and sizes, whilst encouraging dexterity and concentration.
- Physical development: Torreta is ideal for developing motor skills, as it requires precise hand-eye coordination and dexterity.

The dynamics of the game
As the game progressed, the researchers also observed that the children came up with their own rules. For example, they might decide that only pieces of a certain colour could be used to build a tower. Or they might stipulate that a certain number of pieces had to be placed each turn.
The children also began to make up stories based on the game. Their own creations became towers, castles, mountains or buildings, and imaginary characters interacted with them.
What’s more, the players helped one another by sharing tips on how to build a sturdy tower or other creative structures.

Torreta is an educationally valuable game that helps develop motor and cognitive skills. It can be used in both structured and free play activities.
The evaluation arose from a collaboration between the University of Siena and our company, beleduc Lernspielwaren GmbH. Together, we carried out a project led by young researchers which investigated the influence of play on learning processes among children of nursery and pre-school age. During controlled workshops and in everyday nursery settings, play sessions were observed, rules were explained and interactions were documented. The aim was to assess the educational effectiveness of play on an evidence-based basis and to derive specific recommendations for its integration into everyday educational practice.
