Geometrica

The study of geometric forms is already centuries old.

Geometric forms made life easier for people. Just think of the round form of the wheel or the square and rectangular shapes of bricks. New shapes are found in daily life again and again but not all of them are geometric shapes. A geometric shape is one which is regular, easily determined and can be calculated by mathematical formulas.

For our creative puzzle, Geometrica, we have selected the following geometric shapes: circle, oval, rectangle, square, semicircle, triangle, trapezium, arc of a circle and rhombus.

The enclosed wooden shapes can be inserted in very different ways into the 15 illustrated cards. Sometimes two or more wooden shapes are needed for the object being searched. For example the round shape can be found in the wheel of the car and also in the sun in the landscape and the moon on the mosque. The oval shape can be found as a balloon and in the breakfast picture as a fried egg. It is more difficult if the motif shown is made up of different shapes, as is the case in the church or the ship, which are both made up of different triangles and squares. The child then needs to think and try out shapes.

Of course, the children can ignore the cards and use their own creative ideas to build or make pictures out of the wooden shapes.

This game was developed on the basis of our very successful game Pictola. It helps children understand shapes better and encourages them to use their imagination and powers of deduction.

Back of the Geometrica packaging:

This game of geometric shapes encourages children’s imagination, creativity and understanding of shapes.

Round like a wheel, oval like a balloon, rectangular or square?

Depending on the desired level of difficulty, the enclosed 16 wooden shapes can be placed at will to create new shapes or pictures or they can be inserted into the 15 included coloured picture boards. By combining and using trial and error, the cards are filled with wooden shapes and new pictures are produced each time.

An educational game about shapes and their uses.
